Joseph Holder 1828/9 - 1890

Born 1828 at Westbury on Severn.

At the 1851 census. the 1861 census, the 1871 census. and the 1881 census , his occupation was Tailor.

Married Hannah TAYLOR at St Peter and St Pauls, Westbury on Severn 10/5/1858. Witnesses were John KNIGHT, Ann KNIGHT, and Mark HOLDER, presumably the groom's brother.

Children:

Hannah was born at Westbury on Severn 1835/6 to John, a Blacksmith and Ann GANNER. They were married at Westbury on Severn 18/11/1827; the witnesses wer Albert TAYLOR and Ann HIBBERT. Hannah was christened 6/11/1836 at Westbury on Severn. Her siblings were christened John 27/4/1828, Ann 18/4/1830, Mary 26/5/1833, William 27/5/1838, and James 13/12/1840.

In 1861, Robert TAYLOR (a tailor 35, born in Bath) was boarding with the family.

They were a mobile bunch for that era:
In 1861, the family lived at 205 Awre Rd, Blakeney.
In 1871, they lived at 148 Hatters Lane, Chipping Sodbury.
In 1881, they lived at 22 Sandford St, Cheltenham.

Joseph died at Cheltenham 1890 at age 62.


William Richard Holder 1867 - 1947

Born Q2 1867 at Blakeney, Gloucestershire. An Ironfounder's labourer in 1891; A lamplighter in 1911.

Curiously the 1911 census shows all 7 of the surviving children of the marriage but also includes William's grandson George. George William was born Q2 1907 at Stroud with no father listed - whose son was he? Just possibly Ellen's, but most likely Clara's.

Caroline died 10 January 1917 in Gloucester, aged 48 In Memoriam
William died in Gloucester January 1947, aged 80.


Clara Frances Alice Holder Q2 1890 - Q1 1928

Worked as a Machinist in a match factory. This would have been Moreland's in Bristol Road.
